Mood and Memory Study
The goal of this study is to determine how depression may or may not affect thinking and affect changes in the brain in older adults.
Study design
This study will consist of five in-clinic visits and 3 phone visits over a 2.5-year span.
Baseline Assessment: The baseline assessment will include questions about the participant's general medical history, measures of cognitive functioning, a physical exam, an MRI scan, 2 PET scans, and a blood draw.
Follow-up Cognitive Assessments: A follow-up evaluation will take place approximately 12 and 24 months after the initial visit. The follow-up visit will consist of measures of cognitive function and depressive symptoms.
Follow-up Depression Assessments: Three follow-up phone evaluations will also take place, in which participants will be asked about depressive symptoms.
Participant requirements
- 65+ years old
- Currently experiencing symptoms of depression
- Have memory problems or concerns about memory
- Willing to undergo one MRI scan and two PET scans
- Willing to allow the collection of blood for testing
- Have adequate visual and auditory acuity for cognitive testing
- Fluent in English
- In good general health
Compensation
Volunteers can receive up to $680 for completing all sessions.
