Late Life Depression Study

The goal of this study is to determine how depression may or may not affect thinking and affect changes in the brain in older adults.

Study design

This study will consist of four in-clinic visits and 2 phone visits over a 2-year span.

Baseline Assessment: The baseline assessment will include questions about the participant's general medical history, measures of cognitive functioning, and an MRI scan. 

Follow-up Cognitive Assessments: A follow-up evaluation will take place approximately 12 and 24 months after the initial visit. The follow-up visit will consist of measures of cognitive function and depressive symptoms.

Follow-up Depression Assessments: Two follow-up phone evaluations will also take place, in which participants will be asked about depressive symptoms. 

Participant requirements

  • 65+ years old
  • Currently experiencing, or not experiencing, symptoms of depression
  • Ability to go through an MRI scan
  • Have adequate visual and auditory acuity for cognitive testing
  • English speaking
  • Willing to participate in a longitudinal study
     

Compensation

Volunteers can receive up to $410 for completing all sessions.
